Has anyone successfully added additional gauges to a BJ8 Dashboard? The space between the Tach & Speedo and/or the space above the Fuel and Safety gauge? Post pics.
Thanks,
Patrick

Patrick,

When installing a modern sound system head unit in my BJ8P1, I replicated the vertical dash with the added space needed to save the original with original radio. This allowed me to save the original and, if and when I choose, return to original.

In this case, I would suggest you create replacement wood dash panels so you can arrange the gauges appropriately. You would then have the freedom to place all gauges with far less restriction (i.e. wiring, speedometer cable, etc). When you are satisfied with what you have created, you can apply walnut veneer and finish with multi coats of varnish or urethane. Using original chrome and consistently-finished gauges would give the new dash the image of originality.

Hope this helps,

I have added three gauges, a volt meter ,amp meter and clock using drop downs which were period correct. The clock sits below the glove box near the counsel. The other two are below the wind screen cleaner pump/button. The drop downs are crinkle black which looks great against the chrome bezels.
I have seen two gauges in the speaker grill space.
I would not distroy the wood dash at the price they bring today.

Thanks for the input Ray. I will be doing something that's really interesting and will post it on the BCF. Doing a frame-up restoration with everything removed and then reassembled gives me opportunity to fine-tune my AC installation particulary the ducts, controls, etc. The two ctr vents are where the speaker grill used to be. I also have two vents on the sides. I'm posting a pic of the "BEFORE dismantle.
Patrick
