This is a carry-over from my leaky fuel post from yesterday, now resolved thanks to great replies. I have the original carb setup adjusted to idle and fire up quickly, but anyone with other engine adjustments I will need to do to achieve a smooth idle and reliable driver please chime in. I have a Crane Fireball on the car, it was on it and I am afraid to remove it. There is no vacuum advance hose and the air filter housing is off and most all vacuum lines are off or dangling....
I don't know what to do about setting the timing (with the Crane setup). The charcoal cannister is surely not connected to the vacuum ports ( don't even know where they would hook up at this point. I am installing new plugs and wires, but for example, the air pump is not even connected and the belt is not installed. I am at a loss as to what to do first, and on a limited budget at that. My carbs run the car, but power is not near what it should be when I give it some throttle, so I am guessing I have numerous issues to address. If anyone has a step-by-step checklist on a "cheap tune" for a Series II Stromber US Emissions 4.2 XJ6, 1975 (assume 1974 and thru mid-1976 are similar, please share your experiences. Any pictures of a clean engine bay in its original configuration would help immensely as this car was modified over the years and many components were disconnected. The air pump I would think should be reconnected and the vacuums and the charcoal cannister, timing, maybe valves adjusted if I get brave.... those are my thoughts. I know I am missing some steps! Thanks in advance for any help.
Best Regards,
Brian
By the way, I am wondering what an approximate value for an older restoration, needs paint redone and a few fit and finish touchups on the newer interior, would be. I am considering selling, but the values are difficult to find. The car has 35,000 original miles and when tuning is complete will drive like a dream. The entire supension was redone mechanically less than 10 or so years ago and it is a pleasure to drive, but the prior owner stopped before completing the last month or so of cosmetic detail work. Very solid, rocker panels need attention and driver door mirror is missing. Now Old English White with OSJI/ Bartlett Interior in Biscuit. The origianl color was silver and the interior was red leather. Complete change done in mid or early 1990's. Any clue on a range would be helpful if I must sell in the near future. Trying to avoid this, but life happens.
