Bought a Scimitar

Well I went a head and bought a 1969 Reliant Scimitar. Its an early model with a 3.0L Essex V6 and 4 spd. It was never sold in North America so its RHD and must be fairly rare here. Its fairly rough and needs a windshield. Its going to be a longer term project to get up and running.

here's some pics. I'll not sure about the colour

Are you sure they were never sold in Canada? When I was in high school (dinosaurs, cooling earth...) there were two Scimitars I saw regularly. I don't remember them being RHD, and I would normally remember that. Always thought they were very cool looking cars - far nicer than the Volvo P1800 ES, which was much the same idea.

I've seen the car too, I'd agree that it's a little rough around the edges (and then some more). Should be a unique car on this side of the ocean anyway.

And an interesting project.

Eric... interesting observation, never heard of any LHD Scimitar's being sold here in Canada. Closest I recall to this would be a small batch of 1969/70 Bond Equipe's sold new in Canada (LHD of course), there seem to be a small number of survivors in Ontario, not sure if they were sold just there in Ontario or across the country.

78Z,

Good luck on the scimitar. It looks like quite a project you have taken on.

Cheers,

What type windshield did it use? Triumph, MG, or something else?

Tony,

It uses the windshield used in 1962/64 Ford Consul Capri or Consul Classic (extremely rare in North America, only 15 known of), or the Lotus Elan +2 (much more common in comparison).

Neat! This is a nice looking car.
I always liked the "sportwagon" concept. Other attractive sportwagons that come to mind are the Volvo P1800 "wagon", the Chevy Vega GT wagon, the Aston Martin Shooting Brake, and even the MGB-GT (sort of). I saw a Corvette wagon at a show once...it wasn't as bad as it sounds.
The color isn't that bad...you can always "test" different colors in PhotoShop.

That sir is an ugly car, in the cool "I would love to have one" kind of way.

The colour reminds me of... "Baby Poop Brownish-Orange"

I guess to each his or her own, it might look good with a racing paint scheme, (meat balls, numbers and all) using the base colour as a foundation.

It is a nice project and somewhat unique, should be a hit at the British car shows when you are finished.

Nial,

On the corvette wagon you were referring to, was it at the Pittsburg Vintage Auto show this past summer, and was it a Nomad? (I think that's what they called it) I believe it was really a wagon with only general styling cues from the first vettes.

I ahve owned a couple +2's. I always thought that they had a 105E windshield. I have been looking for some documentation on that though, and I have not found it.

Essex V 6's are a little rare here too, as far as I know, only TVR hsed them in the US

I have a 1971 Marcos 3Litre with the Essex V6. Also used in Ginetta, Invader, Granada, Capri III, Zephyr, Zodiacs, etc.

Lots of good places in the UK for engine mods, etc. Burton Power, Specialised Engines, and others. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm on the Zodizc/Zephyr, and Capri lists.

The Capri 109E, 1961 Consul Carpi, Scimitar SE5/SE5a and Lotus Elan +2 all share a windshield according to my research.

Thanks! I definitly will but I haven't yet got the car delivered so I'm not entirely sure what condition the motor is in. Apparently it ran a couple months ago.
