Now let me complicate your life. You cannot set or measure the float height with the carbs mounted. You have to take them off the manifold, remove the float bowls, and turn them upside down. The factory spec is that with the carb inverted the height of the big end of the float should be 18mm above flat body of the carb. Later 150CD2 carbs use that 16 to 17mm height spec.

Last week I experimented with one of my spare carbs using the later type float (modified) like your problem carb has. You still need to aim for the big end of the float to be 18mm above the flat surface of the carb body. I had success (on the bench) setting the big end at 18mm and the small end of the float about 10 to 11mm above the flat on the carb body.

However, since your carbs are now working... leave them alone and enjoy a few test drives in your car! You deserve it!
