TR4/4A Your thoughts/value of this TR4

Love that classic 4-cylinder idle sound, Mink. Wait till you get it out on the road and stand on it! My TR4 (stored in SC) has the white metal dash too - I think it's a neat vintage look.

Well, today was the big day! After 3 weeks of non-stop weekend and evening work, she moved under her own power for the first time in at least 15 years. My wife was kind enough to operate the camera for the big moment (I actually pushed the car into position because I wanted the big moment to be recorded). I still have a TON of work to do, but today was a good day. :D

Hi all...haven't posted much lately, but I have been busy. Since the first drive, I've rebuilt the rear brakes, did the rear axle seals, replaced the motor mounts, finished up the wiring, rebuilt the carbs for the 3rd time, refinished the wheels and installed new tires and put the interior back in for now. The grand plan is to drive it over the summer to get to know it better and just have some fun with it. Over the winter, I'll tear it down and repaint it back to its original Powder Blue. So far, I've probably put about 100 miles on it and I'm having a blast! :highly_amused:

Got my Heritage Certificate today. Pretty cool that it confirmed that CT10042E is indeed the original engine for the car. However, I can't imagine what they meant with the body number of "202-CT". Unfortunately, my original body number tag is missing so this was one bit of info I was hoping to get.

You should probably question them on that since it does seem wrong. They made a mistake on one of my certificates which they fixed when I asked about it.

Yep, mine too had an error. The gal admitted it was hard to read the record -- fortunately I was able to give her the correct number (read an '8' as a '3') and they issued me a new certificate.

I think they may be working from an old microfiche of a stained index card that road down the assembly line with the car -- or some such challenging source.
 
Well, I sent an email to the guy who created the certificate asking him to re-check the body number and his response didn't make the situation any clearer. I guess there was a goof in the records back in 1962.

Dear Mr Mink,

I have re-checked the factory record and the body number is definitely recorded as 202-CT. Of course I recognise that this is out of the 'ball park' sequence with the commission number and you would certainly expect a four digit body number. However, it is what the record states.

I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like the person writing down the number for your car was having an off-day. :smile:

Hi all. it's been a while since I posed in this thread, but I think you'll be seeing more of me in the coming weeks. With the weather cooling off, I decided it was time to finally break into my "winter project". I drove it around quite a bit over the last six months, but yesterday I brought it in and tore into it with a vengeance. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the car was as I was tearing it apart. I only had to cut one fastener, the rest came apart just fine. Didn't find any nasty rust surprises, either - this car seems really solid and straight.

Anyway, I'll be posting some updates as I go. The plan is to go back to the original Powder Blue and dark blue interior.

Congrats on the progress. I wonder what percentage of powder blue cars got painted that medium blue metallic color. I've had 3 TR3's, each originally powder blue and each painted some variance of the blue metallic at one point. That must have been a popular color in the 70's. You'll love the classic look of the powder blue. And...powder blue is faster!
