This kind of stuff just sucks and is so preventable! Excerpt from my morning paper:
<span style="font-style: italic">"On a lazy Sunday afternoon, a 14 year old girl died on a two-lane highway south of Edgewood, the car she was in apparently gliding along with too much speed and (the driver) with too little awareness of what lay ahead. Shianne Proveaux, an Edgewood middle school student, had not been wearing a seat belt."
"Authorities say her mother had been driving in excess of the 45MPH speed limit when she tried to pass a slower-moving vehicle on a blind hill in a no passing zone. A car had been on the other side of that hill, and to avoid a head-on collision, her mother swerved, over corrected and caused the car to roll. Shianne, untethered, was ejected (and killed)"</span>
This young neighbor girl is now dead and her mother is charged with, among other things, vehicular homicide. I drive the same road every day and every day I see people doing just completely stupid things, like passing in no passing zones, tailgating, speeding, etc. It is sad that stuff like this has to happen, but too many otherwise good people just don't take driving seriously enough! I suspect it is in part that the smoothness of the cars suspension these days and the fact that when driving a constant speed, there is a false sense of security when driving. We forget that we are guiding a 3000 pound missile down the road and that the slightest incident could send us out of control.
Just so sad for this local family.
