The STC (Standard Triumph Corp?) was used at some point to designate the model year. Mine is on the opposite side of the car (near the chassis number):
I do not recall if this was just required in some states or if other circumstances dictated it.
I wonder if they just did that in '65 for some reason. I have the same plate on a '65 tub that I just bought. Didn't have one on my '66. ???

I recall seeing STC tags on other years (possibly even on TR3As).
Sounds very likely to be the original engine. A Heritage certificate would, of course, tell all.
