YAY!!!!!

Busy time for the working man (my dad works for the same company as Mickey...)

Very exciting stuff Mickey.

What size engine and trans is in the car? I have a 72 project roadster that I was thinking of dropping in a V6. I don't want to have to cut any of the firewall or wheel wells or trans tunnel to make an engine fit. Did you have to cut much to get your to fit?

Has anyone put in another more modern 4 cy. engine?

Thanks

Hey, Kev -

Mine is a crate engine from GM - a 3.4 V6 as found in early 90's Camaros and Firebirds. Also S-series pickups and Jeep Cherokees, in an earlier version. The transmission is a T-5 from the same era.

Very little cutting involved, but there are a couple areas that need attention - both at the firewall. One is next to the steering column surround, and the other is under the area where the heater sits. Both are minor, but you do have to make allowances there. The radiator has to be moved forward, so the horizontal panel in front of the stock radiator has to be trimmed - not terribly difficult. All definitely do-able by those of us with average skills.

There have been some very interesting transplants done; some more modern, and lots of V8's. But the V8's require more fiddling, especially the fenderwells. Unless you're interested in a fire-breather, in my opinion V8's are nice, of course, but they're overkill. The V6 I'm putting in will double the original B's power, and weighs about the same, coupled with the 5-speed. Also, the way it's mounted, all of it sits behind the front crossmember, so weight distribution is very good.

Happy to share whatever info/experience I've garnered (and it's a LOT more than I thought it would be!); drop me a PM with your email address, and we can chat.

Episcopalian. He "retired" from his parish in 1996 after 25 years there but he's been busy doing supply work ever since. His joke -- the three words a clergy man can't refuse are "we need you."

Mom was the co-administrator of the Episcopal Conference Center in RI for nearly 30 years. Every summer she'd pack my sister and I up and off to camp we'd go for the summer. Mine was not an average childhood...

Oh, yes - we've had this conversation before, now that I see the bit about your mom and the conference center.

Son Paul went through the whole PK and camp thing as well. All things considered, he turned out OK... :jester:

And we have oil pressure!

Went to Auto Zone and rented an oil pump priming tool. Hooked up my 3/8" drill and spun it up yesterday. Nice little drooling of oil out the tops of the pushrods.

Stay tuned!

I had to do that with my V8 as well. Frustrating to go through the effort and not be able to build pressure, even with a Vaseline packed pump.

This is a crate engine, and I didn't open up the oil pan.

May have been a moot point, as some circles have it that since the pump is self-priming. Whatever the case, I now know oil will be where it needs to be when I finally turn the key!

Getting closer! Exciting stuff, nothing like that first fire-off. I still remember going through those early motions with the new engine in the Tunebug. Nervous, anxious, and excited all at the same time.

you don't have anything doing this weekend do you?

Mickey, oil pressure is good, brake pressure is better!

Is that system "primed" as well?? I'm sure it is, but the Jiminy Cricket in my head says I gotta ask!

Starts in about an hour, actually.

Brakes will be good to go before it rolls off the Qwik Lift! All bits are in place; just need to bleed 'em.

No this weekend Doc, Jesus comes first.

Mannn, I have GOT to
sit down and design my
MGBGT Project!.

With all the nice GT's showing up
and looking out back to see what I
have, I gotta make a decision.

I have a 4 bolt main small block chevy,

OR

the V6 Vortec motor that I have.

Hmmm
Which will it be?

Yeah - a bit tied up this weekend. Was thinking about starting it on Saturday, but our son, daughter-in-law and grandson are coming in for the weekend and we're gonna relax with them.

Back to it next week!

Anybody want to come play?
