XK140 OTS - Pulled the trigger

In 1975, I saw an ad for a 140 in a Retail Clerk Union's newsletter, $2500. Asked my dad if he was interested, and he said yes. Called on the ad and the car was still available.

In the 20 minutes it took to drive to see the car, it was sold. Saddest looking 140 I've seen, to this day. No windshield, car left out in the weather, and the interior was completely destroyed.

Probably lucky we didn't buy it. I went on to a succession of Datsun roadsters, more my speed financially.

Good luck with yours, Marv!

Now I have found a XK150 Drophead. It rough as well but all there. I'll have to sell something before I can buy this one. When it rains it pours.

You are truely deep in, fantastic!

After going back and forth for weeks I finally pulled the trigger and bought a 1955 XK140 OTS thats been off the road since 1969. I'll try to post a picture tomorrow. I've been wanting one of these for years.

Marv

Marv,

I've wanted one since I was a teenager in High School in the 50's. Couldn't afford it. Then later I married, family came along & it's remained a life-long dream.

I posted a photo of one (ignore the drool marks) for you that was on ebay. I'm a retired Engineer & normally would not use the following description for an automobile but that Jag is sexy!

I know you know what a Jag looks like but thought it might serve as an inspiration for you as you proceed.

PS: Got more photos if you want them

I thought it was "open two seater" for ots but either way suits me. I can't understand why the uproar to a purist to refer to an E type as an "xke" ( what us Yanks called them) but it happens.

Probably because (to my knowledge) nowhere on the car nor in the factory manual does the moniker XKE appear. And, of course, the name sequence is 'E-Type Jaguar', not 'Jaguar E-Type'.

Perhaps no more annoying than someone calling a car an 'Aston-Healey' or the ever popular 'Austin Healy'.

i had plans to restore the 140 back to its original configuration but I was offered a decent price for it as is so I let it go to a owner. Now I wish I had kept it. I do have a150 I am trying to buy.
