Slasher, you really need to work on your Sales Pitch. Never going to sucker someone with that!

I am sure your son is very disappointed! But, that's why you are the dad. Got to make the hard calls. Hope you find a better candidate....
 
I thought you were talking about a Triumph...but there is no rust through, so you must be mistaken.

When my son was 16, we shopped around and got him a 96 T-bird ( pretty powerful & quick, but with a 5-star safety rating)........he wrecked it 3 times the first year (nobody hurt, even the car survived, but 16 is 16). Just say'n.
 
Take him to the local Teen Survival Driving School thru your local SCCA or BMW club and get his skills upgraded before he kills someone. The Triumph, well depends how much you like the car to restore and drive. If you have not had it for a while and do not have the skills, pass. All old cars are worth being restored, just depends who has the time and the money. Antique insurance will have a mileage cap and age cap. Antique plates like here in Illinois can only be driven 3000 miles a year, to and from shows or mechanic shops or in parades. Lots of limits on antique label. Before letting son drive ageless old car without safety of the modern bags and belts, get some additional lessons. TSSS only costs $75 for 8-10 hrs. training, guaranteed fun. Teaching ours in St. Louis this weekend.

I am sure someone more versed in these things has a better idea of whats involved could comment on how to best attack a repair...
 
From the picture of the front, it's a frame rail problem and not a front turret assembly issue. What's worrisome is that there are multiple cracks visible below the brake line tee and below the lower arm pivot as well as a couple of metal wrinkles and a bend to the frame rail. That corner has had a hard life and was smacked into something reasonably hard at some point. I'm not seeing anything jump out at me on the lower breast plate/tee shirt area other than it appears that someone at some point welded in a piece metal on top of or in lieu of the original lower breast plate.

Even if the frame is repairable, I see this requiring separation of the body and frame to effect a proper repair on the frame and from the looks of it, the repair could be quite involved. If the tub is in good shape and you plan on keeping the car, it might just be better to flat out replace the frame with a good used one or a new one. Tough call there with keep or not, and if kept, how deep of a repair/restoration to do, all I can suggest at this point is to list up the pros and cons along with costs of the different approaches then make the call on what to do and stick with the decision.
 
Looks like it got hit hard in the front at some point in an accident, only way I can see those cracks like that being made. Probably was repaired at a body shop and the frame never properly done. Looks like a candidate for a RATCO to me =)
 
Slasher emailed me more pictures. The PO really stuck him good. Frame is a total mess. Only Way to save is new frame. If the work has to be farmed out then no way to come out. Whats hard to figure is how the body is not eaten up with rust or damaged like the frame. I would part it out.

Oh boy , just looked at all pics and those cracks would send me looking for a donor car. Those bends from where the cracks propagate are so unusual, like someone tried to jump something or drove it off a lift too soon. But it makes it look, to me, like the frame has been flexing along that fold in the box section since it got bent. And Triumph frames do unfortunately like to flex and crack. And regarding safety, just a few weeks back saw the updated NHSTA statistics on teenage accidents and the winners are still 16 y.o. males in both numbers and fatalities. Then, like clockwork, days later in the township south of us, a 16 year old fatality with two injured friends. He had just gotten his new pickup for his birthday. Passing against the yellow, and on a hill, and not belted in (sigh). So for the next year while trying to piece that thing together, get him a boat. Where's a '55/'56 Buick/Olds when you need one?

Agree with you there. When I graduated from high school, my parents got me a massive 1955 Jaguar Mk VII saloon (sedan). Figured if I was hit by a bus, the bus would be wrecked, and I could still drive home.

Just out of curiosity, how'd the seller ever cover up all those undercarriage problems before he sold it? (I'm hoping this wasn't another "bought it without inspecting it" situation.)

Daughter's first car was a 1990 Range Rover, thats what she wanted. One month to the day after she got her DL she was T boned in passenger side door. she talked away without a scratch. RR was totaled. I got her another one she drove for several years.
