TR4/4A Worn Fulcrum pins

I have recently discovered that both fulcrum pins are worn from the nuts being loose. I have yet to measure the amount of wear but I can see one of the threaded ends has damaged threads. The proper repair would be to cut out and replace the shafts but this is very invasive and requiring the engine to be pulled for welding access.

Has anyone else replaced these? If so what issues did you encounter.

Thanks in advance.

Just a thought, are you sure it's the pins that are worn, and not the sleeves over them?

I agree, the pins are tough. When I was taking mine apart I did not realize there were sleeves. But once I saw what I was dealing with they were very difficult to remove, first I used heat and PB Blaster, then I ended up grinding them flat on two sides, you need to be careful not to go too deep, then I got a pipe wrench to grip onto the sleeve.... and they finally came off. I purchased the complete replacement kit for the entire front suspension which was really good for me as it made it eaiser to understand what goes where. Good luck!

Unfortunately the steel sleeves slid off still in the lower arms inside of the nylon bushings. The end plates also are worn from the sleeves rotating. I wish that the sleeves were the part that was worn.

I saw that Moss lists the fulcrum pins and was curious if this was a common wear area.

Not too common I believe; but obviously it does happen.

Are the pins still reasonably round? Not too much corrosion pitting or deep ridges?

If so make some "non-standard" sleeves with the required bore. Maybe a touch longer so the end-plates nip them.

Straightforward lathe-work job. Just wants a small boring bar.
