Will try the front suspension as a unit assembly path this time (thanks guys). If I can get her back together in the next couple of days (which at this point I darn well better be able to do) then next stop is to install the freshly rebuilt engine and O/D.
 
Very nice! Was it very expensive to get them powdercoated?

I remember how much time I spent sanding, prepping, primering and painting parts like this when I did mine. It took quite a bit of time and even then I know they didn't look as nice with my limited facilities and funding at the time!

Scott all the parts seen above would be $2.00 each to be blasted, powdercoated, and wraped. The time spent cleaning and painting would well exceed the price of powdercoating in my opinion.

I wish it were that cheap around here!! But mine are done so why complain? I'm happy with them and you will be too.
 
Is there a reason not to do the small stuff yourself? It is my understanding that it is not hard to do, but does require an oven that will reach 400 degrees.
DO NOT USE THE ONE IN YOUR KITCHEN!!

I'm going to start mailing my stuff to you! Around here, the powdercoat place charges $225 mininum order, and that picture is maybe a quarter or fifth of a typical order. That powdercoating is beautiful, I would kill for a place that charged $2 a piece!

Randy you may want to look into shipping the parts to Arizona Powdercoat. Shipping would be the killing point though I think. I just got back 13 parts last week from them for $26.00 plus tax. If you can get a bunch of parts in a flat rate box from USPS it would not be bad.

Did you sandblast/clean the parts ahead of time, or did you have them do them?

I think they may have just got a new customer as I'm only 10 or so miles away. :smile:

All you have to do is remove any soft material, sealant, undercoating. They will remove all the rust, paint, or any other material to bring it back to clean metal. I've even seen them do body parts.
 
I wonder do they degrease or preheat the parts to remove any soaked in oils or grease, and do they use iron phosphate for corrosion prevention?
I am a powder coater and that is way cheap even for an hourly wage with expenses.

I agree, most shops that is way to cheap. My shop has a $150.00 minimum.
 
My modest set up based on the Eastwood system has payed for itself many times over. I can powder coat any part that will fit in a standard electric oven.
 
Sorry guys but sometimes cheap is a good thing. My TR6 parts were coated at the same place eight years ago and not one problem. Maybe the guy that did the billing made a mistake because the last time I was there they charged $3.00 per part instead of $2.00 this time.

My last big job they did for me that included the frame, and 95 other parts was $656.00 All of the parts were for the TR3 that I'm restoring now. The time saved was well worth the price alone.

Gee Wiz Tom I never did comment on your part of this post. Parts all look great, and yes it is nice working with clean parts. The only problem is that you don't want to bolt any dirty part to the clean ones. It's hard to find a good stopping point.

Frank I would love to invest in my own setup but I don't have the room. I bet you could do 95% of all the parts at home.
 
They do look very nice!!! Once there installed you will say what can i do next!! Ask me how i know
