TR2/3/3A Wiring Harness Holders TR 3A

The body on my car has about 18 to 20 Metal tabs to hold the harness in place. They are about 3/8" X 2", they all had some sort of plastic tubing on them to prevent damage to the harness. What have any of you used to replace the original with.I know that I could rummage around the local hardware stores and find something but everything here is closed except Lowes and at 3:45 pm I'm not running off to Lowes. So any help you can give me would be appreciated. That way I would know what to look for.

Thanks, Tinkerman

I believe TRF sells reproduction tabs, and heat shrink tubing works well to cover them.

You could use clear tubing, Aquarium hose?

Do I vaguely recall that TR3s did not originally have that black tubing over the tabs?

Not that it isn't a good idea and certainly TR4s had them. I used the shrink tubing for mine.

The harness metal tabs on my car never had any plastic or other type of tubing covering them. I haven't owned the car from new, but it seems odd that someone would just remove everyone of them. Is it something they started to do in the later cars??

Edit: BTW, I never did cover those tabs with anything. Since I installed the Dan Masters Harness, I covered all of the wiring with that split, corrugated type covering.

You could strip the exterior insulation from a heavy duty extension cord type wire or the same from 12/2 house wire.

I agree with Randall. On my 6 resto, I used heat shrink tubing.

None of mine have had it; but I've not owned them from new and I've never tried to research the subject. Seems kind of redundant, though, if the harness covering is in good shape. If the harness is moving in the tabs, there is something wrong.

Both TRF and British Wiring sell the smooth plastic tubing for wiring pigtails. It comes in a couple of sizes by the foot and is the same stuff that my TR had on the tabs. Just cut a length longer than the tab to cover the sharp edges of the metal tab when you fold it.
