I agree. Even modern engines don't break in on synthetic. It's too slippery to allow the rings to set! I should have been more specific when I said using synthetics on new engines is fine. What I meant was new broken-in engines. Just don't switch to synthetic on an engine that has run standard dino oil for a long time.
 
If you're really worried about the loss of ZDDP, run
any diesel rated oil, I run Delo 15/40 in our Capris
and haven't had a camshaft failure yet...

The guys are telling you a lot of factual info. Zinc Diphosphate was the major antiwear additive that was removed by the US oil companies for US manufacturers, so as to lengthen the life of the catalytic convertors(remember when they were only good for 50K?).

Easy, simple thing to do is get motorcycle oil, or European spec oil. Even european spec synthetic USUALLY has zddp additives, but need to read the labels carefully. There is an oil coming out for hotrodders with ZD additives installed. Read about it in the latest HotRod, but haven't seen any here in Hawaii, forget the name now. What I use is motorcycle oil. Get it from any motorcycle shop. Capable oil costs around $4 a quart from the bike store. Haven't checked in Wally World or KMart for bike oil. Figure on the mainland they would have it at a discounted price.
