For the past year I've been walking past a TR7 that's been waiting for someone to pick it up, give it some TLC and get it back on the road. It's in pretty rough shape, needs just about everything, paint, top, interior, ....... I talked to the mechanic that worked on it and he says it ran briefly for him but then quit and wouldn't restart, so you can probably assume some major engine work is in order. Other than that, it appears to be solid with some rust through on the front fenders.

I know the original owner and talked to his daughter last night and they'd be happy for someone to just pick it up and do something with it. That's right, it's a freebie! I'm tempted to take it every time I see it and do a V8 conversion on it, but it's a commitment of time that I just don't have. I even have a 3.5 block with 32,000 miles on it to get you started (that's not a freebie). A great project for a budding young carnut. It's located in Northeast WI on the Door Peninsula, Sturgeon Bay and would have to be trailered to its destination.

How could you ever pass up on a deal like that. I think it would be a great project car for you...I'm sure the missus would be more than willing to help. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
 
If you throw in the motor, I'm sure it would sweeten the pot a little for someone out there.
The problem is, for around $1,000-1,500, you can get a solid car in much better condition and be further ahead. What you are talking about doesn't sound to me like much more than a parts car. Unfortunately, TR7's don't hold enough value for performing major work or restorations. If the car held sentimental value, I'd go for it.
This car sounds like a good parts car. There would be many excellent pieces that could be used in building your TR7/8. And sell the remaining parts to help finance the project.
If the floors are rotted, through further investigation, I'm sure you will find more rust. I'd want a good solid foundation to wrap around that V-8.
It is far too easy to get in over your head financially on these kinds of projects. Buying several body panels, top, and interior for the car would make it nearly impossible to stay within the boundaries to make the project feasible.
 
Actually kc, I was planning on dropping that V8 into your Spit and finally turning it into a MAN's car. See ya on the 23rd.

Doug, your words are not very helpful in moving this car. Yes, it's going to take a boatload of money to bring it back. And yes, once it's done its value will be about half what you have into it. And no, I'm not throwing the V8 into the deal. This would be one of those projects where you'd pour a bunch of money into a crappy little car that is worth about half your investment when you're done and continue to suck money out of you til the day you get rid of it...but hey, isn't that what we LBC guys are all about?

Actually, I told Donna that the Spit was her car. That way when I spend anything on the car, I'm actually doing it for her.

does it have a dohc engine? if it did, i always thought it would make a nice transplant in a tr4.

Hi all,

There's alao a free '66 Triumph 2000 being offered here in San Jose, Calif. It's in the San Francisco/Bay Area Craigslist and also in the www.vtr.org classifieds, if anyone is interested. I'm very tempted, but simply out of space or time for new projects!

Not sure why but your VTR link is sending me to VTR Banda Ancha Chile. I think only Mike knows where that is if it's on the list of sites for his Pan Am cruise.
 
That's a later model (made in Solihull) - one of the better ones. Wish I were closer, and had room for it. Don't let it become one with the earth!

Why not, they were designed from the beginning to accept the Rover V8.

The factory also made just over 2700 V8 wedges. You know... the ones that are called TR8's. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif
