Why the Triumph Hatred?

Dave,

I've got a '60 Chevy panel truck - oh crap!

Hey, you gotta have something to tow the MG or Triumph with

Actually, old American pick up trucks and station wagons hold a dear place in my heart.

Pick up trucks are like crack, once you try one, you're hooked.

Amen, Hap. I own two old pickups, a '25 and a '39. I've nearly come home with countless more. Lucky for me I have no space, time or money for them!

I won't let myself look at old pickup trucks or old Jeeps -- at least not until I have the new garage built in the back yard...

Too dern cool.

I am really confused now. Who exactly is it that I am supposed to hate, considering I own a TR3A, an MG TF and a Harley (and have had a number of each over the last 35 years)? Frankly, I really like them all. No doubt though that when driving the TR or MG, I get what might be considered to be smug looks from mostly Jag and Healey drivers. As for the Harley comment (which I didn't really like), I guess unless you have (or had) one, it really might be hard to understand their appeal. For me, its the fact that for the longest time, they were fairly basic and allow you to feel a connection to the vehicle like I do with English sports cars. Live and let live I guess.

Why is it that some MG people absolutly HATE Triumphs?
I understand the friendly rivalry, but some go to serious
hatred for the marque. Why is that?

'Hate' and 'car' used in the same sentence is ....silly.

I don't like or dislike certain cars because they were made by any particular manufacturer, although certainly some manufacturers have made far fewer cars in which I'd be interested than others.

I like some Triumphs (probably owned a dozen of them) and not others. I like some MGs and not others. I've never quite understood people that say they love everything a given manufacturer put out and hate everything another manufacturer produced. Must be a much....simpler.... world for people like that. Don't think I'd like having the mentality that makes everything either black or white - colour is so much more interesting! :yesnod:

Rick, I can't make out that engine well enough to know if it is the Standard engine later used in the Triumphs. They were only used in Ferguson tractors model TEA-20 from 1947-56.

The Ferguson company didn't amalgamate with Ford, they joined Massey Harris in 1953.

The tractor that used the Standard engine apparently was a ringer in looks for the Ford 9N, but that used a different engine.

I've also seen the Standard Triumph engine used in boats.

Maybe Healey owners?

Seriously there are some marques that I like better than others but if you maintain with pride and drive with pride your vehicle, I appreciate both you and your vehicle. Don't really care about its marque or $ value.
