Why do people name their cars?

We have Trevor and Tillie the Spitfires. I go for the alliteration- and one car seeming masculine and the other feminine. Klaus is the Auto Union DKW, and Hiram (Hire 'em) is the Austin taxi. The Renault Dauphine is Marie Antoinette Bardot. Much like original Bridgette of the fifties, the Renault was once curvaceous and and so well proportioned. Now both seem a bit worn at the edges and have seen better days. Marie Antoinette because there was an engine in the back seat without a head.
 
Oh yes, Listening to Click and Clack some time ago, a woman wanted a Jeep Liberty... She named it Patrick Henry.

We used to get mail from the Ford garage addressed to Theodore T. Bird, our 1981 Thunderbird.

Trevor, you may have the most unusual collection of cars on these boards! Congrats!
 
Naming my cars have always been a part of the connection with some of them. Not all of them have been named though. My TR6 was named Josephine, after Napoleon's Josephine. If you know the history it can make sense. My TR8 is named Jezebel. She picke dup that name on the way home from buying her. I rolled onto the throttle in fifth gear at 70mph and was suprised at how quickly the ton came and went. Right then and there I knew she was a trouble maker, thus the name.
