Who makes the best headers??

Eventually I'm going to rebuild a 1275 I have, to replace the 1098 that's currently in my '66 midget. A few questions first....

Will the same header fit both engines? And, is there any particular header that excells above the rest? What do I need to look for when shopping?

I have to pull my 1098 this week to do some gearbox work, and thought about going ahead and adding an LCB header while I was in there because the stock setup leaks horribly. And if it will match up, it will already be there when I'm ready for the 1275. Any input??

I have a 1098, and every time I think about putting in a 1275, those much more experienced than I ask WHY? They go on to say that the 1098 is a GREAT engine. Unless you're gonna be driving it like you stole it, leave the 1098 in. Tons of low end torque, great for around town or out on the open road, and so smooth you don't need a harmonic balancer. Mine pulls smoothly from 1800 rpms in 5th gear with a 3.9 rear end.

If I recall correctly, the two engines are optimal with different exhaust systems. Check out VIZARD.

Maniflow sold by APT makes the best header (in my opinion)
I have had mine for over 12 years now and it replaced one of those 3 into 1 jobs.
Big difference.
1098s and 1275s use the same exhaust.

Regarding the Maniflow headers, my questions regard a MKIII Midget:

1) How do they fit in the engine compartment? Any cutting, bending, etc.?

2) Heat? Do they introduce significantly more heat into the engine space? Problem with the SU carbs?

3) Carb needles. Did you have to switch carb needles?

I'm in the process of installing my Maniflow into my Bugeye (w/1275). I had them jet-hot coated to hopefully help a bit with heat in the engine space, but no idea how it will really do.

So far the fitting has been tricky -- would be much easier if the engine was out! I've been told I may need to trim the opening near the front frame rails a tad to get everything to fit. The quality looks quite good to my inexperienced eye, though.

Not that I have much knowledge here, Pacesetter (not that I like it) fits fine, but couldn't you put a floor jack under the engine, undo mounts and just wiggle the whole thing over a tad, then wiggle it back, leave most things bolted right up, or wouldn't that help much?

I haven't had time to get back to the install yet -- heater and battery are already out, just need to have a few hours clear to fiddle with it.

I can't for the life of me picture why the heater box has to come out to fit a header? (Or battery for that matter!)

Winner Circle also put out a nice LCB header , alot like the Maniflow, it also is two piece design, meaning you can install it without removing the steering shaft, I think it sells for about $250, www.spridget.com
