A friend of mine has rather bad memories of these early Escorts, when he first started driving their family was a 1981 or 1982 Escort station wagon, with an automatic! Can you say sluggish? I think he grew to despise that car, and then saved up enough money to buy a 1983 Mazda RX-7 for himself...
