I have never had to add brake fluid (1 1/2 year owner). Please no laughing or sniggering at this question. Still learning about her.

THanks

You should not have to add fluid to either of them.
Some people may have a different school of thought, but i like to use the brake fluid level as a gauge for my pad wear (brake fluid acts like a big liquid piston, the fluid amount in the system doesn't need to change, as the pads get thinner, the fluid goes down)

Of course this assumes no leaks.

is that a hocky stick holding up your hood? only in /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF

However, its not a bad idea to flush & clean the systems every few years.

We won't laugh at the question - just the hockey stick keeping the hood open. Just kidding.

Nice clean engine bay.

Thanks for the advise. Is there an easy way to do this, or an easy way to learn how to do it?

Get a repair manual such as Bentley (best) or Haynes to become familiar with your car. To change the brake fluid, all you do is bleed the brakes. Chris Betson has a manual available on his site ( https://www.octarine-services.co.uk/ ). Click "enter my forum" , you will find many technical articles there. The manual does take a while to download. After you have become familiar with the braking system, check back for tips on bleeding.

Thank you Kimberly. Sage advice. There is a point at which as much information as you can avail yourself of is the only thing to rely on. Brakes, their operation and maintenance is at that point. Those who've done this for YEARS as routine (I include myself here) tend to accept that it's 'simple' and perhaps don't impart the necessity to KNOW what's actually going on in a hydraulic system before jumping in and trying to effect a repair. IOW (In Other Words), get the info and digest it. Look at the car and identify the components, then when you've a clear 'cause/effect' picture we'll all be on the "same page." It ain't particle physics, but it does take some forethought. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
My SOLE reason for the diatribe is: It don't matter how FAST a car is, if'n it can't STOP fast too. Brakes is safety bits. Your well-being is the priority here.
