Where did my horn go??

Had my '63 Sprite on stands while rebuilding front suspension. Put it down and went in to start it up and see my horn button had popped off, so put it back and no horn. Early steering wheel with center push. Horns worked fine and actually blew them about 4 days ago before starting the job. I have power at the horns and at the horn contact, pencil thing. I do not see any loose parts inside the car but the only way I can get them to sound is if I run a jumper wire from the contact and really dig it into the back side of the metal dash. I can not get them to sound grounding the contact anywhere inside the steering wheel hub. I'm guessing it's the contace/slip ring but wonder what happened, it always worked fine? Horn push is basically new too.
a little puzzled

You answered your question. You took the front suspension apart. Ground path goes through the steering column. Run a separate ground wire to the steering column and I'll bet you can make it work.

Are ther any extra parts you want to get rid of? I have a 63 Midget and amlooking for steel wheels and seats for now.
Let me now please,
Jim
