MGC Where are all the MGCs?

MG_Bizzle,

Other than the obvious 6 vs 4 cylinder engine, the suspension is a bit different as well as the steering and a few odds and ends...

The tranny and rear end,I think,is the same...

IMHO, anyway... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

The transmission is different. There were two manual gearboxes offered for MGC. One with standard gear ratios and one with close ratios. If I'm not mistaken, the transmission is also larger than the MGB unit and therefore MGC tunnels are wider. Somebody want to confirm or correct this?

hmmmm... yeah, I tend to forget about that power bit... up until I get on the road and try to keep up with an early twin SU equipped B.

Intresting, I thought they were almost the same. Its a shame that magazine reviewer gave it a bad name and thus it became a flop.

Nunyas, if you came to the UK we all have twin SU's or better /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Rob, there's a remedy for that. And I have a set of donor carbs sitting here... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

and if you come to California, we all have ZS carbs or worse on our 1976 and newer MGBs... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

at least during testing time that is /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

oh the temptation!

Steve,

I can't confirm the tranny issue with my docs... mine is a 4 banger. I had looked at a 'C' at the San Diego British Car Days meet awhile back and noticed the suspension and steering differences but could not determine if the drive train was different... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

I did see an 'A' with a full blown 427... I don't think Abingdon made it tho... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

The MG club had a meet this last weekend in KC and there were 3 very nice MGCs. However the shows highlight for me were the 4 prewar MGs. 108 cars at a very well shaded event. Very, very nice.

Nunyas,

This is exactly why I stick with 68 or older cars... No smog requirement in CA... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

and that is exactly why the next time I buy a classic car it will be older than '76 /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Hmmmm I think il stick to buying cars that are older then me /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

So much more style.

If I bought cars that are older than me... I would need to buy hay for the horse... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

The MGC uses a 3.07, 3.7, or 3.301 differential, depending upon year and transmission.

Some of the other visible differences between it and the B:

That beautiful bonnet...

15" wheels....72 spokes is wires. Totally diffenet steel wheels - 5 lug - if applicable (rare in the States).

Different seat frames due to the floor pan design.

Different steering wheel.

Dual HS6 carbs instead of HS4s with a different air filter housing.

Different air pump.

Carb cooling fan located on radiator surround.

Obviously has M-G-C on the bootlid or hatch lid.

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Other than that.... 'xactly the same... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

I hope to get the MGC bonnet for my car, fibreglass version obviously.

Ooo a carb cooling fan? Sounds intresting, never seen that on one over here...has some got a pic of it or the engine bay of an american MGC?

yeah, sounds interesting! Sounds like something I might want to add to my B :p

This is the engine bay of my 1968 tourer. The brake boosters (North American market used two opposed to one in the UK) are packed up and ready to go to Power Brake Exchange for a rebuild.

You can see the temperature sensor for the carb fan just forward of the air filter housing. The actual blower motor sits in behind the grille and in front of the radiator shroud.

Rick,

On a serious note....

The engine appears to be painted AH green... Is that the factory color. It does look a whole lot better than the MG red.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
