Wheels

well, think of it like this. The center-lock mini-lites are easier to keep clean for daily use. So you swap to the wire wheels when you go to shows. Only draw back to center-lock mini-lites is the price... they're down right obscene in price if you ask me. I'd probably only get them if I was serious about racing.

If Anna (Bina) has the stock splined wire wheels, I personally would stick with those. If she has steel/disc wheels stock (with the 4 lug pattern), I'd prolly change them out for mini-lites, but only if I didn't have the stock wheels. If ya'll are thinking of changing out the knock-off wire wheels for bolt-on mini-lites (the style *most* people have), I personally don't think it's worth the time an effort... between the cost of changing the necessary bits from splined shaft to 4-bolt lugs patter, plus the cost of new wheels... I would gander it'd be about the same as getting center-lock mini-lites...

Center-lock mini-lites on Moss

Standard mini-lite replicas

the difference is how they attach to the car. The top set should fit on your MGBs that came with stock wire wheels. The bottom for MGBs that came with steel wheels, Rostyles, and LE style wheels. notice the price difference.

Janel,

Superlites and panasports look almost identical. They both have a machined lip on the outside. Minilites are fully painted with no machining. Superlite does not currently offer knock-off wheels (as opposed to bolt-ons), but Hap says that they will be coming out soon. I believe that only minilite offers a knock-off wheel. In my opinion, Superlites or Panasports are a bit nicer than the minilite wheels. The extra machined lip looks really nice. I have been told that if you leave the minilite knock-offs exposed to weather, the chrome center section will rust very quickly. Oh, one more thing, the knock-off minilite wheels are almost double the price of bolt-ons.

Dave

I've got Panasports on my MINI and, they are available either fully painted OR with a machined lip. I was asked which I wanted when I ordered them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I went with fully painted, though if I can ever scrape together the money to put them on my Spit, I'll probably go with the machined.

Knock-off Panasports or Minilite replicas are EXPENSIVE!!! We're talking sell your next born expensive!

I think we were trying to say what Tony just said about the center-lock minilites... only be a little more subtle about it... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Pay fer 'em with "SpaceBucks" (plastic) and let your next-of-kin worry about it.

Mehheh.

Spacebucks is about to double their minimum monthly payments... If it hasn't already happened to you. Might want to rearrange the budget if your on one. I can quote a good reputable source on this if I need to.

We don't use spacebucks Doc. Well, we do, but we pay the card(s) off every month.

Technically money isn't an issue. Within reason. I want them to LAST. I don't want them to rust or corrode or pit or flake. And I have to go with knockoffs because I'm not changing the rear axle. That said, I'm not paying $2000 for a set of anything unless it's new leather furniture for my house.

D@mn this isn't going to get easier as we get further into the restore, is it?

Not until you & dahubby develop a plan that you both agree on!

Wow, 2000 would get ya a leather furniture for your car... and a few other things!

But, given the car... (the '66 right?)... I'd say go with the painted wires, or the knockoff minilites! whichever YOU like! (ok, maybe the chrome wires if they aren't that much more than the painted ones and y'all have the money for 'em)

Tony, Chuck & I are EXACT opposites. From the time we met on a blind date, ex-Navy boy+hippiepeacenik=wedding bliss. We agree to disagree on nearly everything except raising our children.

And I'll clarify the money bit. Remember, we're old, our kids are raised, no college tuitions, house is paid off, etc. We are spending our kids inheritance. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif And maybe Sarah's wedding money too if she doesn't get on the ball soon! We stuck some money (from some stocks we sold) into a separate account. $10000. That WILL pay for whatever we do to Binabox. Or it won't get done. Minus the cost of the car, because we split that out of pocket. How I got rooked into that deal on HIS /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif car, I'll never know! I'll remind him that half the car is mine, and his half is from the gearshift to the right.

It will definitely be painted wires or the minilites. And color's picked. Hard part is already starting, WHERE we're getting the top, carpet, interior, leather seats. He wants to order it all from one place, I want to shop around. He's the hunter, I'm the gatherer.

Well, I'd like to be in on the pricing - don't think many can beat my prices...especially if we wait until the Moss interior/top sale next year

email me when that's here tony... I might want to order seat restoring stuff and maybe a new top, when the sale comes around.

Tony I know. I REMIND Chuck every time. I don't know if he feels obligated to order from John or what. But it BUGS me.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. We are NOT waiting until next year for a Moss interior/top sale. I'm still hoping to drive into Gatlinburg in June in Binabox! I wanted the mohair top from Prestige, but he doesn't have early 'interiors.' Carpet can come from anywhere as far as I'm concerned, except it has to match whatever color we picked. Same for leather seats. The top doesn't have to match perfectly, because it will either be in the trunk or up, and if it's up, you can't see the interior all that well. Tonneau cover is a tool, it doesn't have to be anything fancy as far as I'm concerned.

Well, send me a parts list & I'll bet my prices will knock John's out of play!

Top, preferably 'cloth' with zipout window - either way, a GOOD quality top, not a cheapy.
Leather seats (and foam?) with piping
Interior panel kit
Carpet (the good, molded sort, not that bugly kind)

What else do we need for the interior?

'bout it

why ever do you want a cloth top? & don't you have the top bows that come apart & go in trunk?

Shift boot, visors, shift knob, guages, dash pad, Motolita steering wheel, Amco console, Uh, what was the question again... Drool...

Kenny's got a point....top will spend most of its time down...don't waste the $$$'s`on cloth - go good vinyl & spend the dollars on wood steering wheel, etc!

Cloth top. I like the looks of it. Non-negotiable. And I hate the wooden steering wheels, the banjo wheel is going to be refinished (it's in very good shape actually) and the old, faded center emblem is staying in, as homage to the car. Dash pad for a steel dash? I'm doing the black wrinkle paint myself.

I have gauges. I want a crooked shifter and the original type knob. And the scrunchy sort of shift boot, not those baggy ones. And visors are useless, I doubt we put them on Binabox.
