TR4/4A What's a Supposedly Concours Condition TR4A Worth?

I had been pondering getting my TR3 supercharged (and also thought I'd do the same if I were to buy this TR4 being offered on eBay), so what I'd like to know is just how much of an improvement it is over leaving the car stock. Please describe how you like your supercharger and how much faster your car goes with it, how much smoother, etc. Thaks.

I currently have the standard pulley installed, and I'm seeing about 5 PSI of boost (max). I do have a smaller pulley for the blower that should add 1-2 PSI, but have not installed it.

It makes a fairly noticeable difference. Don't expect that it will slam you back in your seat or anything, but it is a nice extra kick, and I think it even runs better off-boost. When the boost comes on, it is perhaps similar to downshifting, you get about that kind of extra acceleration. I also find that in situations where I would normally downshift, I don't have to.

So overall, I'm quite happy with it, and the Moss kit is very complete and well thought out. It isn't cheap, but in smiles-per-dollar, not a bad return.

Thanks, Darrell. Not on the subject of the S/C, do you find that it's hard to drive at highway speeds because of no O/D? I find that those extra 600 RPMs really make a difference so now that I've experienced my cars with O/D, I wonder if I'll always miss it if I were to buy another TR or Healey without it.

Hagerty rated our 72 MGB at $20,000. Must have sent them a dozen photos. But it's like another said, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. PJ

Since I've never had it, I don't miss it. I my younger days I took some pretty long trips in the TR4A, and wasn't bothered by the engine revs. But it might be different if I was used to a car with an O/D.

I have one TR with and one w/o OD and I drive them pretty much the same -- 1000 mile trips, 70-75 mph cruise -- doesn't seem to matter. I like the flexibility the OD gears offer and on more moderate cruises the mileage in OD 4th is spectacular -- but I don't really feel like I'm punishing the non-OD engine with those higher RPMs.
