What Is The Story Behind Your User Name

My user name was picked to honor both my Great Grandfather and Great Great Grandfather who both joined the Confederate Army in Whitesburg Ky in 1862. Hence kyreb1862.

Whats your story?

I lack imagination

Uh, I am a roofing contractor ( who also lacks imagination)

I play the guitar..... ~ducks and runs~

Back when our daughter was just moving beyond Judy Blume books, one of her friends said to her, "Shannon, your dad is weird. He has all those old cars everywhere."

Shannon's answer was simple, "Oh, he's not weird, he's just an autoist."

Without knowing it, she had coined a new phrase, to me at least. Being a father to whom education was important, I gave her an assignment: define "autoist". Her results definitely describe me (and possibly you):

<span style="font-style: italic">"auto-ist (Ă´ 'tĂł-iste)n. 1. A specialist in automobiles. 2. One who produces, makes, operates, plays with, or is connected to automobiles. 3. A car nut."</span>

So, in 1984, when Shannon coined the term, we adopted 'theAutoist' as the name of my little MG rescue venture and museum. And, in 1998, when we finally gave in and purchased a computer, 'Autoist' also became my computer identity.

But, here, I'm just Tony Barnhill!

Have been into BMW motorcycles long before I got my TR3 and used donbmw when I first starting with computers back in 89.

When I built my slot car track about 6 years ago, I wanted a name for it. I have always been intrigued by the wonderful English track named Brooklands, but I knew I would not be reproducing it, so I named my track Brooklands Speedway and took the ID of Brooklands when I could. I looked through the fence at Brooklands back in 1976, but could not find a way in. Now there is the museum and last summer the big 100th anniversary show. Now I need to get back to England to visit for real.

Easier than my name
Would be nice to know some first though.Even some of the oldest posters I still don't know their names but the monikers are just as good.

Mine is a nomer bestowed by me Ol' Fella back-when:

"You can make things NOT WORK at th' speed of light... usually just walkin' in th' room... you're a PhD of Entropy!"

(That is an ~almost~ verbatim quote... th' Boss has thingies in place wot censor the REAL quote  )

A few of my garage wallah pals were around to hear it. It stuck.

"LotusPosition" may even have been there. Not certain.

Mine was actually a nickname I picked up while doing community theater. I usually helped out with lights, and was our resident electrical guru, as well as an electrical engineer. I think somebody came up with the name after an incident involving a defective stage light I was testing. Let's just say electricity always takes the path of least resistance, and I was being a little too conductive that day. The directors had some fun after that, and I was immortalized in our program as Electrician: Dave "Sparky" Sherman.

Don, I agree....would be nice if everybody signed their posts with their real first name! I learned that at the 50th Spridgets Show when I tried to put screen names to real ones.

I got back into little sports cars after about a ten year hiatus when I bought a Miata, also know as an MX-5. I just inserted my name in after the "M"...hence m<span style="font-weight: bold">art</span>x-5.

Born and raised around Rolls-Royces - Rollers as they are called here! - AX201 is the car of cars (imho). As a kid I had a little British boat called a Dori - like a Boston Whaler - called it Silverghost and been using that ever since. If I don't own one by the time I move on, my last trip will be in one.

No real story, it's where my 100-6 was built. Back when I joined the Forum I was still in the high frustration stage of owning a Longbridge built 100-6, where many things are just slightly different than other 100-6's. Thanks to the Forum, I've figured out most (but not all) of the differences.

I've used drooartz as my website domain now for 10 years or so... wanted something that was available and reflected what I do (musician). The odd spelling was just for fun, as drewarts seemed so boring  . I've used it as a login name for all sorts of sites now.
