The part no. for the BJ8 gearbox assembly w/ O.D. is 22B170 and w/o O.D. it is 22B176.
Maybe the no. you quoted, IM8896, is the serial no.?

Well, I don't think it will fit, but I always liked the way they worked in an MGB.

Well, that depends on your determination level...
When the all synchromesh gearbox was designed for the MGC (in theory, the Healey engine modernized), the gearbox was redesigned and a much larger layshaft incorporated. It's a stronger gearbox than the the original Healey side or center shifter transmissions.
The MGB box has a shorter set of gears and a smaller bellhousing than the MGC version. They are otherwise identical.
I have an MGC gearbox in my Healey. I can provide the details if anyone is interested.

Yes, and you can through in a Toyota Supra tranny or a 240Z engine and tranny, etc. I prefer to keep it as original as possible. And besides, I was joking.
