What do you know about Weber carbs?

I am posting this in the Pub, because there might be others out there...
We installed a Weber downdraft carb on our B with a header. It idles beautifully but seems to really lack power in 1st gear. The Carb is opening both ports together when it kicks in which seems like its getting WAY too much fuel. It has always done this since we purchased it new. This doesn't seems right and makes the car run rich in fuel when you give it gas. We don't think both should open at the same time in lower gear.
We think this is why it seems to lack "umph" in the lower gears and is overfeeding fuel.
How do we adjust these? Could it have been adjusted wrong on assembly? Can we fix this?
Any ideas would be welcome.

Terri=- I always suggest to a Weber person with problems. Find a Ferrari mechanic, not a dealer, and he'll figure it out and make it run great.
I had a downdraft Weber on my 73 Capri and had similar problems. After the mechanic took over, yikes, that car was scary.

What do I know about Weber carbs? They make great boat anchors!

ouch.......... Watch out below, here comes a carp, I mean a carb.

Thanks for the help Tony!

Don actually has a good suggestion. Not just a Ferrari guy, tho. The things were fitted to Fiats, mostly. Few Ferrari's were ever fitted with what you have on there. Folks who fettl'd with 'em are even more scarce. A Fiat fanatic would be easier to find, methinks.

...Tony's eval is closer to what that DBL BBL progressive Weber is good for, tho. A DCOE (40 or 45) is a much better unit for a B.

By-the-by... is your vacuum advance hooked up and working?

Expensive door stop, paper weight!

Terri,
Are you talking about the DGV style Weber (32/36) or the IDF/IDA style carb?

I've NEVER seen an IDF bolted up to an MGB, Dar. Got a photo of that?

Nope. Just exploring possibilities. Never know what someone might try.

Findin' a manifold would be a challenge, I'd guess. Home-made would be about all there is.

Dang, it's been several years since my last Fiat and I just can't remember. I'm sure it was progressive though. The thing just always worked right. Dumping both barrels at low rpm would certainly not be right.

Probably not jetted for an MGB...until you find somebody who can figure out the proper jets, its what I said it is....when I find one on a car, I either throw it away or sell the car....anybody need an early pull handle car, pre-back-up lights? Runs & drives; you just have to use the park brake to stop it.

I'm guessing you have DGV carb.
One thing I found is they like a little more advanced Ignition timming than the SU's My experence with them was very frustrating till i found this piece of info on the web. https://dimequarterly.tierranet.com/articles/tech_weber_tuning.html

weber DGV is not as simple as SU"S to setup and run correctly but the do work.
Is just that you will spend HOURS getting it done.
If you follow the help in the above listed article and IN THAT ORDER you will get it tuned GOOD LUCK!

Ahem....
