Yesterday was Ganddaughter's birthday so we took her to Barnes and Noble to get her some books. While I was there, I spotted these on a discount table and couldn't resist.

They look like some sort of special printing.

Reading is a good thing for young folks to gain a habit of, all the things you can learn and experience that they would normally not realize exist. My middle niece is a bookworm, she's mid 20s, and I'm always happy she's got this habit rather than just swiping away on a phone.

I was never a reader until I got to high school.
My English teacher required a number of interesting books, I recall one that was some short stories.
I was always reading ahead of the class schedule since the stories were so interesting.
When I transferred after my family moved to a different city, high school became so dull I ditched a lot of classes.
I also stopped reading until I was married to someone who always was reading.
She made me an offer I couldn't refuse and recommended a book by Isaac Asimov.
I knocked that one off in short time and she had me start on Dune.
Since then, I always have at least one I'm reading and a few on backup.
One of the best books I have read in a long time was "the Book Thief', which I finished a few weeks ago.
I don't like going to the library for some unexplained reason.
My source for books are the 'Free Little Library' boxes around town.

I always seem to find books that interest me are part of a really large series - I pick up one at Half-Price Books and then realize its book 6 of a 15 part series, next thing I'm wheeling a shopping cart thru the store trying to find the other 14 and having the guy at the counter bring in the 3 or 4 that aren't in the store from another location, and spending a pile of money.

I got hooked on a series of historical fiction a few years ago.
My mind is currently too addled to remember many details but it started in the 16th century England.
It had a lot to do with some pirates and connected the story to actual Historical facts.

I tend towards history, science fiction and some adventure like Cussler and Clancy used to do. Got the habit from my dad when I was a kid, was probably the only elementary school one who read the newspaper when I got home, back in the day when a paper was full of national and international news, Time magazine and military history books that eventually became all history.

Ah yes, Cussler and Clancy - two favs. I have an autographed copy of Atlantis Found, by Cussler. Met him at a book signing several years ago.

When our Son was at the US Naval Academy one of his friends was
dating Clancy's daughter.Interesting how things connect.
That & $10 will get me a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
