Reading is a good thing for young folks to gain a habit of, all the things you can learn and experience that they would normally not realize exist. My middle niece is a bookworm, she's mid 20s, and I'm always happy she's got this habit rather than just swiping away on a phone.
I was never a reader until I got to high school.
My English teacher required a number of interesting books, I recall one that was some short stories.
I was always reading ahead of the class schedule since the stories were so interesting.
When I transferred after my family moved to a different city, high school became so dull I ditched a lot of classes.
I also stopped reading until I was married to someone who always was reading.
She made me an offer I couldn't refuse and recommended a book by Isaac Asimov.
I knocked that one off in short time and she had me start on Dune.
Since then, I always have at least one I'm reading and a few on backup.
One of the best books I have read in a long time was "the Book Thief', which I finished a few weeks ago.
I don't like going to the library for some unexplained reason.
My source for books are the 'Free Little Library' boxes around town.
