Ian, your car looks great in that line up and the small town streetscape is a perfect backdrop for the cars.

Wish I had been there.

So where will it be next year?

Ypsilanti, Mich. And according to the VTR booklet handed out, the Spinal Tappets will give their farewell concert.

Janet and I are beat! Will take a nap and then see if some of our pictures highlight anything different than the above.

Ypsi.! A 25 mile drive for me, so I guess I'll have to finish the GT6.
Maybe this is the kick in the pants I need to get me jump started on it again.

Hi Mickey;

Glad that you had a Great Time @ VTR:

Question? Why did`nt You mention any "TR4`s or 250`s"?

Just Curious?

Thanx and Regards,

Russ

Hi, Russ -

Sure wasn't a slam on my part. There were TONS of 4's and 250's. But the TR3A was the featured model of the meet, and it was good to see so many of them.

As for pictures, I found these in my "mailbox" - lots more than I took, and if you want an overdose, here you go. (My car and I, sitting behind it, are buried on the third page of pictures. Got my BCF shirt on!):

Mickey,
If you had to guestimate, about how many Triumph cars made the trip to Valley Forge?
Those are nice pictures linked. Looks like it was a fun time.

There were 317 registered, according to reports I've read. From what I saw, that's probably accurate.

We registered when we got there, and our number was 273.

WOW! That is some collection.

You can see Old gold on page one in the linup of cars returning from the breakfast run. I am also on page two with the autocross photos. A big thank you to whoever took all those great shots!

Re: Welcome to VTR 2007 Valley Forge, Pennsylvani

Just ship a bunch of Triumphs up north to Calgary sometime /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif How can you tell I'm car starved here, where nothing cool (automotively) ever happens

Looks like a great time there, and I also noticed a 1970's Dolomite in one of the photos, wonder if it was the desireable Dolomite Sprint... That white car might be a Triumph 2000 saloon car (1940's) or perhaps even a pre-WW2 car?

It was a Sprint - very nice shape. Also, for sale was a nicely restored RHD Vitesse Estate.

I believe the white car was a Renown, but I didn't get the year. Gorgeous car!

Same here. Sure were a bunch of folks.

And Marc, I didn't realize who you were when I chatted with you a couple of times.

Anyone else there?

Don't forget next year's show in Michigan. Besides the return of the Spinal Tappets, author B.S. Levy will be the keynoter.

I'm thinkin' four days there, and a few days in Toronto. Any early takers?

Re: Welcome to VTR 2007 Valley Forge, Pennsylvani

Back about 1988 I picked up two TR4 (factory race cars) from a guy in Bloomington, IN and delivered them to a dealer in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I picked up a check for $75,000 and, since the dealer and his check had a dubious reputation, I went to his bank and cashed the check.

I BELIEVE these were some sort of Le Mans cars....but I don't have any pictures and my memory is a little foggy. Perhaps these two cars were from '61? I don't know. However, I do remember that one car ran and the engine certainly did make some un-Triumph like noises...a Sabrina engine perhaps?

Re: Welcome to VTR 2007 Valley Forge, Pennsylvani

Sounds like they could have been two of the TRS Le Mans cars. Did the one look like the photo seen elsewhere here? If memory serves, Charles Runyan of The Roadster Factory actually does have two of these cars: the one seen @ VTR and another in not nearly such good condition.

If it's the car I'm thinking of (owned by Jim Williams of WV), it's technically a Herald 13/60 Estate with a GT6 drivetrain -- the conversion being done by him -- which roughly equates to a Vitesse Estate but without the quad headlights of the Vitesse. Technically there never was any such thing officially, although a small number were "built" by the London Service Dept. of Standard-Triumph and count as semi-factory cars. Others have been built over the years by private owners; it's a simple enough job due to the construction of the Heralds and Vitesse and the relative ease of swapping body bits around between these cars.

Hey Mickey
Was that you talking to Ed about TR8s, when I was looking for my lost door magnet? The magnet had been turned into the front desk.

Re: Welcome to VTR 2007 Valley Forge, Pennsylvani

Yep, yours truly.

After I heard you had lost yours while driving, I pulled mine off and put it on the dash. Forgot I'd lost mine at Rockford a couple of years ago - somewhere during the fun rally.

I lost it between the registration desk and the car!
Now it is on the door where it will stay for awhile. Ed was the one who sold me the 4A. Then he took my money and bought the TR8. A winning situation for everyone.

That was the one. Very nice car!
There was also an early Carmine Herald Estate that was all original never restored with only about 26k miles on it. That car was pristine also.

Re: Welcome to VTR 2007 Valley Forge, Pennsylvani

Yeah, Bill Goodwin's car, imported a year or so ago from England. Technically, I think the color is #22 Cherry Red. But it's a beautiful car that I hope to see in person sometime soon (I've lots of photos of it from Bill).

Geez, is it that pitiful that I seem to know something about almost every Herald in the US? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Re: Welcome to VTR 2007 - 20,000 trophies

Okay, all you betting against my success on attending VTR arriving in the Stag, all bets are now closed!! Those betting against, pay up! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/winner1.gif

Some GREAT photos posted already ... Stags were located, of course, in front of the Brewery Pub!!!

After 6 days on the road - 3 days out and 3 back, we have returned home to Colorado covering some 3900 miles on I-70 and a few side trips on both sides of I-70 for wineries and antiques, not to mention many drives around Valley Forge and visiting family.

The trip out we saw ZERO Triumphs until we pulled into Ted and Eden Allison's driveway outside of Dayton and there were 4 Triumphs counting our Stag. Departing Dayton Monday morning were two TR8's on trailers and two Stag's - Rob Schmueling and my own driving. We caught up with the trailer queens in New Stanton then caravaned into Valley Forge. It is always a thrill to ride in a convoy of Triumphs and watch all the gawkers and young kids with their noses pressed against their car windows as we pass by in a line.

Herman van den Akker of course took the first place in long distance drive in his TR250, some 2800 miles one way. Some other person thought they qualified for second with a scant 1200 miles one way - we did not find out where to enter the distance contest averaging 1950 one way.

I did see Mickey actually "drive" his TR8 on and off the trailer!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

The trip back saw ZERO Triumphs! But we did see two MGB's heading east on I-70 in Kansas. How discouraging /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

So this trip amounts to me collecting about 20,000 trophies; being 3900 miles on the odometer, about 2 dozen chips dings and scratches,
and as close as I can count, 16076 DEAD BUGS (photos to follow)!!! Three quarters of those bugs were won in Kansas.

I did however get the Autocross 1st place in Class - Modified - an empty victory won with no competition.

It was great to place names to faces from the Triumph list and British Car Forum. and specially see Bob Danielson's TBI on his TR6 - VERY COOL!! And Cosmo too!!

Triumph Stag Club USA sponsored the Welcome Party with $500, and co sponsors were TRA and the TR8 clubs. What is so cool about that? Free BEER and Phila Cheese Steaks, snacks and TastyKakes!! If I missed any of you at the Welcome party, well Sue and I had a family BBQ and I had to shoot out in the Stag to Havertown.

My thanks to all the great folks and volunteers of the Delaware Valley Triumphs for a most excellent convention hosting 4 days packed with fun and activities! That is what a National Convention is all about, fun, friends and driving Triumphs. If you did not attend, well it was your loss.

The best trophies are miles on the odometer, stone chips in the paint, dead bugs on the windshield!

Re: Welcome to VTR 2007 - 20,000 trophies

Oh right, there were 23 STAGS there too!!!
