Weight of chasis.

Does anyone have the approximate weight of a bare chasis (no drive train, fenders, doors, hood, or trunk lid etc.) of a BJ8 or any 4 seater? Thanks and have a good day!

An article by David Seib comparing the Jule chassis with the original mentions that the original BJ8 frame weighed 135 lbs. The Jule frame weighed 215 pounds, but was much stiffer. The article was printed in April 2000 in the Healey Marque Magazine.
 
One hundred thirty five pounds (135 Lbs) seems awful light.

While I could handle this chassis to roll/flip it for painting, I have to think it weighed more than that.

Note, I was MUCH younger AND stronger then too!

The only parts covered in the article were the longitudinal and cross piece parts of the bare chassis, not all the superstructure shown in your photo. If that was what was meant, I have no idea.

That makes me feel a lot better :wink:

If I had to guess the weight of something I lifted more than twenty (>20) years ago, I'd say the complete chassis (shown in my post above) was 350 Lbs.

I can't imagine the 4-seater being too much different.

I would say that is a pretty accurate guess, I am sandblasting my (BT7)chassis right now and was figuring it weighed somewhere in the 350-450lb range, it is in the same state your pic is.

Two people can carry it very easily and one person can shift it about readily enough if a full lift isn't needed. I lifted one end onto the sawhorses and then the other, and it can be tilted on its side, etc. Adding the sills and main floors doesn't add much weight- maybe another 15-20 lbs. </span> </span>
