Amen. Too much carb is not optimal.
The HS4s I run now are fantastic at WOT but
just too much carb to have nice street manners.
Even after expert tuning there is a compromise.
Lean 'em enough to have nice manners around town
and they lack at WOT.
Mind you this is a 1380 with cam, ported head,
headers, alloy flywheel etc. and the HS4s are
still too much carb for the street.
That 40DCOE is even larger by a bit compared.
I'm going back to my HIF6 for now as it performs
flawlessly. I really do prefer the look of twin SUs however.
Hap is putting me a little something together
in the HS2s but it might be a bit before they are ready.
It only takes a few minutes to swap intakes with carbs
so I plan on keeping the HS4s for track days where
WOT is the name of the game.
I'm sure results vary and due to the modified nature
of my engine my observations are specific to my
set up only.
I think the twin SU is tops for looks. IMHO
Here's pics of both the HIF6 and the HS4s as installed
on Mimi.
Take it for what it's worth.
