As the owner of a purpose built offroad vehicle whose gear boxes are lubricated in significant part by turbid water (not by choice), I say "YIKES".
Bob
Reminds me of an incident at work in NC.
Had a bevel gearbox fail due to lack of lubrication. The machine was 5 years old and had about 8000 hours on it with no oil change. Upon opening the gear box the mechanic said "Them gears weren't mashed together right at the factory" I asked him if he had done the oil changes to which he replied "We never do that one it is too hard to get to"
It was hard to put in the new gear box.
