We are installing the 5 speed tomorrow...

I talked with Bill, we have a plan.

Since I drive this car I will have to get my other Spridget (64 Sprite) running safely so I can drive it to work for a week or two.

Then we will pull the drive train again, open up the tranny and see what it needs.
Gather the needed parts and make repairs, then reinstall.

This is a great plan, and I have to admit it was Bill who suggested it and is giving his time, effort, knowledge and garage space!

LBC people are the best! BillM is a prime example!

I would totally have to second this. BillM is the best. Very willing to go out of his way to help a fellow MGer..... thanks, Bill.

Well that would be interesting to know, and would only take a phone call.

Actually the Datsun tranny is really simple and easy to work on but any shop still charges close to $100 per hour so even for a 3 hour fix it is a lot of bucks. I have heard to be wary of the current syncro rings and apparently the syncros in the trans are OK (sounds like it shifts smoothly) so bearings(my guess is a loose screw on the gear-change rod for the 4th question) and reseal are probably all that is needed. These trannys are really tough so I am not anticipating too much else wrong.
We'll see
Bill
