Want A Healey??

My goodness!! there are 28 Austin Healeys on E-bay at the moment. I did not see any Rotisserie Restorations listed as such, /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif but there is a local CA barn find listed in the group.--Fwiw---Keoke

Re: Want A Healey??

Re: Want A Healey??

Well Anthony, Don't have a clue. I guess the folks just have to wait an see what that bugger "BJ" can think up next.--Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Re: Want A Healey??

Now that you mention it, here's a nice example of what's up for sale on the bay:

https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...28474761&rd=1,1

Guess they were watching BJ when they priced it, though my my choice of headlights. Then there's this one:

https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...20077370&rd=1,1

Took first place at Rendezvous, even with the exhaust tips and funny looking choke knob. I wonder what the reserve is, cause I could use a spare and the red and black always beats me in shows.

Here are some notes on the goledn beige healey:

1) Top bows are installed wrong
2) Dash top and door padding should be black
3) Car is riding way too high, either that or the tires are too low profile
4) Seats look overstuffed and wrinkly, even my amature installation of a cheap moss interior has less wrinkles.
5) I'm not a fan of the 14" motolita... but that's a personal preference.

$110K? Boy I shure iz bein nit picky, but at that price it should be perfect....

Re: Want A Healey??

That was my point with the rotisserie restoration thread. Many of the folks here are capable of noting the small things that could/should be different (particularly like the dash top being red instead of black). But somebody who doesn't have the detailed knowledge necessary to tell what's different gets mislead.

Eventually, the new owner shows up at a concours show with his new, and very expensive, BJ8 only to learn that he's got a 92 at best, with plenty of work left if he wants to reach 99.

Now it's fine if you prefer a red dash over a black dash, but the seller needs to point out that the dash is not the original color so that the buyer is not mislead. I am familiar with caveat emptor (I use that cuz I know how much Anthony likes latin) this isn't about lawsuits, it's about Healey people being honest with each other.

Re: Want A Healey??

My dear SHG, it is not neccessary and sufficient that the dash top should be Black. That cars initial puchaser could have specified that the optional leather interior be delivered as shown. If there is a discrepancy the enclosed "Heritage Certificate" will disclose it. Healey cars are like Books you can not judge it by its color--Fwiw--Keoke

OH! I lmost forgot! Chrome/SS tips are a must if you do not want too cook the chrome on the bumper overider.

Re: Want A Healey??

My dear Keoke, the devil is in the details. I'm sure you don't advocate sellers decieving buyers as I know you are a man of total integrity who would never deceive anyone.

While you have proven to me that some buyers had the factory make special changes to their Healey's (and I bow to your far superior knowledge!), I would be hard-pressed to leap to the conclusion that a red dashboard on a fully "restored" car was a factory original change. I would also find it hard to believe that a buyer should have to wait until he has the heritage certificate before finding out for sure.

Again, I have no problem with anybody making any change they want to their car. But calling a horse a cow does not mean that you're going to be able to milk it. Especially when it is selling for $110,000!

As for the exhaust tips, aren't you the guy who told me not to do it when I changed over to a SS exhaust? My bumper overrider is a nice medium rare, just the way I like it.

Re: Want A Healey??

Naw SHG, On some of the SS exhaust systems the tips stick out far enough that you can polish about 10" of the pipe and they look just like "TIPS" .- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/yesnod.gif

Oh You know why they named that SS sytem "Bell" Cuz it soon will ring like one.--Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Re: Want A Healey??

I believe that all dash pads came standard in black. Red interiors were standard in some color combinations.

Keoke has shown me that the factory has made cars with different colors as special orders. As he puts it, they would make anything the buyer would pay for. If the red dash pad was original to yours, it would be on the Heritage Certificate.

Re: Want A Healey??

I believe that the 100-6 and 3000 up to BJ8 all had dash tops colored as to match the interior. The BJ7 had dash top and door tops matching the interior.

Re: Want A Healey??

I agree with Healey nut about the suspension riding to high.
Looks kinda odd setting that high in the front.
All in all it's a nice car but not perfect as they state many times in their add. It would be intresting to see what the car would score if judged by concourse judges. I would bet it's not perfect ( but better than mine by along shot)
but then again I never made claims my car is perfect.

Re: Want A Healey??

That ride height might indicate the PO "upgraded" to the "off-road" suspension option.

I love that word..."upgrade"...

Re: Want A Healey??

Wayyyyyyy too much red on that first ones interior for me! But then I NEVER said I liked red either. For that much $ it would have to be show room stock and perfect NO BLEMS or better. But then I still probably wouldn`t part with that much $ for it!

Re: Want A Healey??

7777's all of the aftermarket BJ8 rear springs have to be fiddled with if you do not want the rear riding too high. Real PITB to do.---Keoke
