TR5/TR250 Very stiff rear end

We'll I got it figured out! The new Monroe tube shock that bolts thru the body and bolts to the shock mounts does not line up good at all. I checked EVERYTHING and I did install it correctly. The tube shock was out of alignment causing the shock to bind up solid. So after sitting back and reevaluate everything, I removed the "new and improved" set up, and re installed the old lever shocks. The car rides nice and squats down a little bit on acceleration. I love it...... Bad news is I removed the door check thingy to keep the door from opening to wide, all I had to do was adjust the door some, we'll the door was swung oped a little to wide and now the beautiful door has a big crease in it. That will be fixed soon, but what a disappointment.

Sorry to hear about the door. Will you be able to make it to Dixon? Hopefully just a paintless dent repair?

Sorry to hear about your door, however.

Curious about what springs you have back in there. Stock original TR4A (280lbs) or the Supplex (350lbs)? If the Supplex, what do you think? How's ride height compared to stock?

I'm currently trying to find out how to test my original lever shocks too. They have the full range of motion and the action is nice & smooth. They are firm and require good effort to move (despite my effort they only move so fast and after 10-12 cycles my arms are shot) but, just not sure what is considered normal. They do not leak fluid and fluid is clean, clear and full.

Did something similar to the 56 TR3 I recently finished, put a big dent and scratch in the driver door. I did have left over paint that matched out perfectly but pocket book was $375 lighter. Glad the 250 is riding good now.

Dan, I have the Moss Monroe kit on the 4A and it works really well. I can't see how you could get the shocks so far out of alignment that they would bind. You said earlier that you had taken the shocks off and still had the same problem which suggests that the shocks were not the problem. If the car has been sitting for 30 years, are you sure that the driveshafts were not locked solid and that a bit of driving has freed them? Could you push and pull the shocks through their full travel by hand when they were off the car? If so, I think you should have a look at the driveshafts before the springs or shocks.

Feel your pain about the door. I closed the garage door one night and heard a crash shortly after. My ladder had fallen on the boot lid! Ladder now lives in a different place.
