Valve cover color

You mean oil covered is NOT a color? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Sliver. At least that was what it was and is on my '73 TR6.

The one I got from DPO Pedro is white plastic
and says "Kirkland- one dozen" on the top.

I made guess that was for the 12 valves?

Most were silver. Some were chrome.

Mine was silver, but is now chrome.

Simi gloss silver on the TR6. Some of the other TR's may have had chrome, but not the TR6. I personally vote for Brosky's engine bay; sure beats OEM. The after market up grade aluminum look great too AND they have less tendency to leak.

TR250's were chromed.

Some brief research shows that the 69 TR6 was also chromed. Apparently the carbureted (ie US-spec) TR6 got a painted cover in 1970 (CC50000, when the cover was also changed for emissions reasons ?). However, the PI TR6 was apparently always painted (not sure about the TR5).

So, what shade of silver were they painted? Something like the silver used on painted wire wheels or something else?

Bryan

My 1969ish TR6 with a TR250 block has
a very shiny chrome valve cover.

TR2s were painted black, TR3-4A I know were chrome. All the TR250s I've seen have been chrome, and most of the TR6s I can recall have been painted silver.

Not all 69 TR6's were chrome; mine was painted so there was some switchover early in production as a guess.

Ben, both my '59 TR3A and my '67 TR4A had painted valve covers. Go figure.

I should know better than to state anything as solid fact when it comes to LBCs.
But I've seen/ worked on a good number of TR3s and 4s. The only painted covers I've ever seen there were done by owners. Usually because the plating had rusted through.
BOth of my 66 TR4As had chrome valve covers, and the TR3 engine that came with my TR2 has a chrome cover, but I also got the painted one along with the original low port head.
Still, I woulden't put it past the manufacturer to have put out a mixture.
