***UPDATE*** on the '71

Whatever you do, don't insult him, Ya crazy gearhead! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

heh... just curious .. what year did they ditch the pull handles?

Oh yeah, has anyone attempted to convert a push button into a pull-handle around here? I'm wondering if its possible to do so and still use push button latches...

Mid-year '66. You don't want to go backwards! The pull-handle latches are a completely different setup. Door internals wouldn't mate up, the body bulkhead where the striker lives is different too. Pull handles are crude by comparison. If it were feasable I'd have converted this '64 to pushbuttons years ago. As it is, I'm considering the "kit" from V.Brit to "rebuild" the NLA drivers' side... NOT looking forward to that. Rejoyce in your "modern" handles/latches.

Maybe the son is more resonable than mom. After it is stored for a bit at the junkyard bring in $500 and offer to take it off his hands.....Crazy?...maybe....Gear Head?...fo shore!

Just don't think I want it any more...being the crazy person I am! We'll see. If they call or not in a few weeks after it's been sitting without a buyer.

But not for $700 any more. It's depreciating every day it sits there as far as I'm concerned!

I helped a friend rebuild his pull handle latches. When I say helped, he needed me to do some milling work on the replacement parts he got. They did not fit and were a mile off. Maybe for another car? I machined them to fit. There were also problems with the strikers not lining up, but that was solved with some bending of the mount. Beware pull handles.

Why not just show up at his door next week in your Cardinals jersey, Cardinals Baseball cap, and a Cardinals flag. The wife will feel so sorry for you that they may give you the car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Actually, they switched to push buttons in April 1965. Not 66. But, converting to pull handes is definately not a bolt on sort of switch. It would take a lot of welding, cutting, and fabricating to do it, and in the end, would it be worth it?

Ack... I sit corrected... OldTimer's Disease. And after reading artmck's post it looks as if the 'latch repair kit" job is gonna be a PITA. Counterfeit Tiawanese bits strike again... guess I should be glad even THOSE are available tho.

<DrE mumbles as 'e looks inna VickieBrit catalogue again...>

JB - that sounded like the perfect time to use a line I heard my father roll out smooth as silk one time when I was a kid...

"$3500? That sounds fair, if you can throw in a car that's worth that much."
