turning over an engine sitting for years ?

and don't forget a 3/4" to 1/2" socket adapter unless you have both wrenches.

This brings me to the famous argument of Crank Bolt Removal:

Loosening the Bolt: (to replace the damper, for example).

that's simple to do because you are turning the wrench counter-clockwise, (and the engine turns clockwise), and usually a good smack to the wrench will loosen the bolt.

BUT: how do you TIGHTEN the BOLT to proper torque? The engine will eventually start to turn with you as you tighten. In fact, I only torqued mine as far as I could, i.e., until the engine started turning. I don't think it is up to spec. I'm always worried that the Bolt is going to rotate freely one day, straight through the radiator!

An easy quick way....

remove the spark plugs. Fill the combustion chambers up, with cord, you know good old fabric cord. Stuff as much down in as you can, leaving a trail to pull it out of the hole.

This acts as s "block" filling up the space above the piston and combustion chamber. The engine may crank a tiny bit, but not usually if you've got more than one chamber filled.

Then when done, remove the cord, install the plugs, fire it up and drive away.......

Voila!
