I've never understood the reason for torque specs on fasteners using castle nuts and cotter pins. The two just don't go together. I think you did it about the best way you can, tighten to spec and then back off until the first slot aligns and installe the cotter pin. The pin size isn't too critical, it's just there to keep the nut from rotating and there isn't much torque if any. The bolt can't rotate because of the clamp bolt in the shock arm. Looks like you're ready for many miles of fun.

Looks great, cut off about half of the cotter pin legs that are sticking out and bend the ends flat to the nut then they will not pick a finger.

I completed the same job last winter on my car, if your concerned about any give (because the new poly bushings have a slightly thinner shoulder) check out my post showing a washer that I inserted to make up the difference, I had a great driving season with no issues last summer :smile:

Yes. Just use the urethane bushings. I didn't have any "top hats" when I did my '67 last week.

While you're at it, move the shock arm up and down. Nice and firm?

Take a good close look at the spring pan (#3) inner bushings. If your shock bushing are worn, chances are.... These can wear and then you could possibly have torn body mounts. It's real thin metal the bolts (#8, 9, 10) hang off of. Good insurance to replace these, or welding may be in your future. To do it you do have to remove the spring, but it's surprisingly easy. There's a trick using threaded rod. Check 'em out first.

Here's a pic of my 40 year old springs vs. new. I also had a blown shock. New shocks (from Worldwide), springs and urethane bushings. What a difference.

Just hope you've got the correct springs. I had to order 3 sets before they finally shipped the correct set of springs. Bugsy looked like he was set up for off roading when I initially installed the spring sets. Even though I ordered for a '68 they sent springs for a RB Car I'll assume. Gap between Front tire and fender edge was almost 2 1/2" and that was with a lowering kit on the car.
