Shot the trunk pan and clear coated it over the last 24 hours. Had an issue with the clear coat coming out cloudy on one of the bumper brackets. It made a huge mess trying to fix the problem. Fortunately, it is on the side facing the fender and not really visible. Time to put the car back together tomorrow.
Next stop: Firewall in the driver and passenger footwells. That will be the last of the summer projects.

I'm calling this part of the project done. Didn't turn out that great, but the main thing was to kill the corrosion.

Clear coat -- I had a lot of problems with the clear coat, no doubt due to the humid conditions in Maryland.

Got the bumper back on -- this was a bigger pain than removal. The deformed trunk floor on the left side made the brackets and bolts very hard to line up.

And the lid goes back on. I still have to do some buffing to even out the clear coat:

Once everything is back in the trunk, most of the imperfections are hidden. As you can see, I try to cover just about any eventuality. There's also plug wires, jumper cables and a fan belt stored on the inside of the wheel:

I'm sorry, but this is a new one for me. Honestly, I don't think I have ever heard of Aluminum bumpers. Am I missing something or are you just alluding to their weight ?
Maybe it's just the weight and the complete lack of corrosion on the insides of the bumpers. I expected to see some surface rust...but nothing, nada. When I cleaned it with a wire brush, it cleaned up like an aluminum rim from a bicycle. Maybe it's not aluminum, but it is definitely an alloy that has similar properties.
