Triumph owners in Ottawa? Or Ontario generally...

Just wondering preferred parts suppliers for northern owners. Anything online seems to be coming from the US and therefore the delivery rates are international. Is there a good shop locally (Ottawa and environs) who can get decent prices and avoid the shipping issue?

Peninsula Imports in Oakville I have found to be very good. If the parts are not in stock, they usually will have within a week as they order directly from Moss & TRF. Pricing usually beats doing it yourself, not to mention avoiding the border hassels. If you request, they have their own "specials" catalogs for Triumphs. All contact info : https://www.peninsulaimports.com/

Good luck,

Obsolete Auto Point Edward Ont..Mike the owner is a nice guy. Has an online flyer also has used bits from time to time.Carries Triumph,MG,Austin Healy snd some Jag.Sources a fair bit directly from the UK.

I am in Ottawa. If you go to my web site there is a link to the fellow I buy my parts from. What part of town are you in?

Re: Triumph owners in Ottawa? Or Ontario generally

There are no local parts suppliers that I know of in the Ottawa area, although you can go to some of the service shops (e.g. Redshaw) and buy parts from them. Usually pretty pricey.

The only Canadian links I have are as follows:
https://www.bmc.on.ca/storeFront/store/index.asp
https://www.macgregorukcarparts.com/about.htm
https://www.obsoleteauto.com/

As mentioned in a previous post, I have heard good things about Obsolete. All of the above will have some shipping cost, albeit not international.

Personally, I have found it cheaper at the end of the day to buy from US or UK suppliers, even with the additional shipping cost. You have to look at your particular needs and price them out, but with the Canadian dollar a little stronger recently both the UK and US prices are easier to take.

Shipping from the UK is pretty expensive. But again it depends on the underlying parts cost. I have bought stuff from Canley Classics which came out pretty reasonable compared to North American costs FOB Ottawa.

My main suppliers are TRF, Spitbits and BP Northwest, in no particular order. BPNW has good prices and fast (overnight) shipment with no surcharges at this end. Plus you can see the shipping cost online as you order. BPNW does not stock as wide a selection as others, but what they do supply seems to be good quality. TRF usually sends by USPS, and shipping costs are reasonable, particularly when they have special deals, but of course its slower. You probably wouldn't use Spitbits. I have not tried VickyBrit or Moss myself.

If you're new to Ottawa, I would invite you to check out the Ottawa Valley Triumph club at: https://www.ovtc.net/ Good folks and they organize some interesting events and local drives.

The place I buy my parts (when I want to buy from Moss) is through
https://www.drakesbritishmotors.com/
He imports them to Canada and ships them to me for less then it costs me to buy direct from Moss.

Re: Triumph owners in Ottawa? Or Ontario generally

A good list so far. BPNW is a very good supplier (and advertises here).https://www.bpnorthwest.com/
Also In Detroit, is Little British Car Company https://www.lbcarco.com/
I mention these 2 US suppliers because one should ALWAYS compare prices US to Canada. Both are top notch.
A very good supplier in Ontario is British Auto Sport.
I do believe no WEB site but toll free # is 1-888-485-2277.
Fred is located Troy, On. North of Hamilton.

Thaks for all the responses! Adrio, the car's in Kanata (I'm temporarily in Scotland) - I'm trying to sort out suppliers and to-dos so I can hit the ground running, so to speak, when I'm back in town.

Re: Triumph owners in Ottawa? Or Ontario generally

I am at the other end of town in Orleans, but it is not far. Once you get back to town let me know and we can get together if you would like.

Re: Triumph owners in Ottawa? Or Ontario generally

I'm also in Ottawa. I've used most of the suppliers mentioned above depending on what they have on sale. Shipping from US is reasonable for smaller items. I tend to use the Canadian suppliers (Obsolete, Fred at British Auto Sport) for larger items and pick them up or wait 'til they're at a show in this part of the world (i.e. at the Boot n Bonnet Autojumble in Kingston in April). I also know people that get larger stuffed shipped from the US to Ogdensburg, NY and then go down and pick it up from there.

As mentioned above, check out the OVTC when you get back to Ottawa.

What work are you going to be doing on your car?

Cheers,
Martin

Martin,

not related to the thread but in the small world department, I use to work for your father.

Re: Triumph owners in Ottawa? Or Ontario generally

Adrio, that'd be great...I'll be in touch with the fellow Ottawans when I'm back. I'd really appreciate getting looped-in with the locals!

Martin: I'm hoping to resuscitate a '75 TR6. It's running and seems to be in pretty good shape, but was stored for a long time. I'm planning to do what's needed to get it driving (fluids, belts, brakes) and hopefully drive and work....roadworthy's the goal.
