Got it, all froward and reverse gears work, as advertised.

And I thank all that helped. Think I even understand how that thing works now.

Hmm, remove CD and Vid card and update kernel, then vid card then CD driver. Gota do these things in sequence.

umm... "there's a hole in th' bucket, Dear Liza..."

The ONLY way for me to shove the kernel update (BIG file) on the drive is with the CD... the vid card will allow me command line access, so I'm about to set up a Samba smb.conf file and allow it access to my LAN... THAT'LL fix it. GGRRRrrrr...
