I'm thinking about resealing my 4-speed and I've gone down this road before. I have replaced the front and rear seal and they last a while before weeping, but the selector shaft o-ring seals never do well. I have found a few threads that hit this a bit, but I'd like to do it right this time and not have to smell the lovely scent of hd oil burning off my exhaust if I can help it.

In most cases I find modern seals better than their original counterparts, so it might be wise to consider other variables including the sealing surfaces on the shafts that the seals ride on, excessive movement in the shafts and proper alignment and seating of the seals.

Go to the general page again and in the 'search' box type in the entire 900 number at the end of Phil's link.
 
If the seals aren't lasting then it's either the surface of the shaft or the play in the bearing. If the shaft surface is not polished smooth then no seal will survive. Rust and scoring from previous seals are the biggest culprits.
