For what it's worth, I've removed transmissions 5-6 times and never took off the hand brake or steering wheel. The trans is not that heavy. I just stood up with it and stepped down out of the car. Supported the rear of engine with a jack with wood block(like the photo) and use another jack under the trans. just to keep it from falling down when the input shaft cleared. When you go back in, use some long bolts (4"-4 1/2" i think)thru the bell housing into the threaded hole on the engine block to support the front of the trans and line it up. Someone on here told me about that and it sure made the reinstall much easier than it had been without doing it.
