I've had a NAPA universal in my 8 for the past 4 years and 6,000 miles with no problems at all running an Edelbrock 500 carb. I think it cost all of $20-25 and I used the existing fuel line running right through the old pump so it was a very simple fix. Best thing about it is I know if it craps on the road I can easily pick up a replacement at my friendly NAPA dealer.

Well, IMHO, the intank pump is very easy to change (the tank does not have to be removed) if the tank level is low enough. A correct crossover pump doesn't need a pressure regulator. You don't have to drill and tap mount holes for an aftermarket out of tank pump and you don't have to modify any wiring for the new pump. I haven't found my reciept but I think the pump and filter sock I bought were also less expensive than the universal aftermarket items.
BTW, Woody is supposed to have new intank pumps sitting on his shelf ready for sale. And here is a link to the Wedgeparts crossover list .

Yes you can run a external pump, but you need to remember that you may need pull fuel thru a dirty sock and the fuel pump itself. TR8 carb cars power for the pump goes from the ingnition switch, oil pressure switch, inertia switch to the pump.You need to to check these items first to correctly find your problem. If you decide to run a external pump I would still suggest you remove the original pump and install an TR7 sender so you can pull the fuel thru it without any restriction. Personally for 68.00 dollars I would just put an orginal pump in and know it works as good as the original.
