After going through two Lucas alt's in less than 4000 miles I'm ready for a change. The first one just quit charging. This one won't quit charging and has the voltmeter pegged and fan belt smoking - ahh Lucas.

I know GM's have been installed, but I can't find a specific model number or wiring mod for it. Any help is appreciated.

Never did mine, but it was planned before I sold it to Paul.

Here's a YouTube bit (which includes a plug for the BCF! ):

The author's a BCF'er. Also, I wouldn't have learned how to do it myself without the help of the others here.

If the video/article don't cover it ask away.

I bought a 95 amp bolt on unit that was exactly the same as the unit on my TR6 and it works perfectly. I just used the different terminals to wire it in with no cutting or clipping of the harness.

And check the mounting bracket. Mine was cracked.

This was the alternator source: Brosky TR6/TR8 95 Amp Alternator

You may have to Google them for the latest ebay listings.

Thanks guys, two good alternator alternatives. Need to go shopping and get to work. Good chance to do some other electrical work I've been putting off.

Thanks Randy, my problem sounds exactly like your former problem. I'll definitely check that wiring issue out before springing for a new alternator and hopefully luck out with a broken connection.

That would be way too embarrassing when I wet myself. I'd be happy to just hear the exhaust music.

Randy, I'll be in GB next Saturday, midday. If you're around and available for a quick show and tell I'd love to stop by. Unfortunately, it won't be in the TR8 unless I work a miracle on it before then. BTW, car show in Sturgeon Bay this Saturday if you're interested. Be nice to see something there, other than Mustangs, Camaros, cudas and 57 Chevy's. My number, nine two oh, 743- 9727.

Sounds good. Let me know your schedule and we'll make it happen.
