TR6 Startup up-date

Well I finally got around to start the TR6's engine today. After my friend Percy (he's into MGs) helped me connect things together we cranked it and it would sputter quite a bit and die.....Then we used the choke ("DUH") that really helped, but once it warmed up it would stall. The car would start upon squirting fuel into the carbs and a few seconds later it would stall. The carbs started leaking thru the bottom...any suggestions besides the O-rings/seals on the bottom of the carbs. These carbs were rebuilt about 4 years ago by me (no wonder) and were stored.
Any advice appreciated. And thanks for the oil and startup reccomendations.

Re: TR6 Startup up-date

i had a similar experience with the carbs leaking and it was due to the long period of time that the car sat. The front carb stopped leaking, I guess the o'ring swelled back up but the rear carb continued so I replaced both o'rings. Its a bit scarey to have gas dripping so close to the exhaust. Less than $5 for o'rings vs. burning up your car, your garage etc. not to to mention having to expalin of these things to my wife!!

Beyond that it sounds like you aren't getting enough fuel through. If the car has been sitting I wouls say you drain and replace all of the fluids before doing anything else and plan on changing the oil and coolant more frequently than required for the first few months...just to get the crud out. Also, replace the fuel filter and check the fuel pump.

I am speaking from experience, did my third oil change since starting my car in February and still see more stuff in than I would like.
