Having not removed the springs for replacement before what is the best way? With a jack or with the spring removal tool in the Moss catalog?
 
If you are referring to removing the front springs on your TR6, using anything less than the specialized tool from Moss or TRF would be dangerous. Simply letting the pressure off with a jack can result in a fatal accident. It has been done but not recommended.

Oh, and the rear spings just fall out when you take of the shock, here using a jack....
 
If your working on the front springs, by all means use a purpose built spring compresser. Moss, Roadster factory, and other supplier have them. A local club member is another great source.It's the only way to go. Safety first!
 
I made my own spring compressor out of a length of all-thread rod, a piece of flat plate, washers, and nuts for less than five bucks. I would not attempt the operation without this device. If you have a supplier catalogue look at the picture of the tool and replicate it. This is only necessary for the front springs.
