TR6 TR6 Monza exhaust - all that and a bag of chips?

I got mine 6 years ago for $700.00. NOS It even came with the warranty card. I sent the card in but I got no reply. I saw some on ebay some time back but like you said very expensive. I'm not sure if they were original or not though. The person I got mine from had two sets and was keeping the last one so he could reproduce it later on.

Stebro.....a really classic sound, if you can find them for under $1,200.
Just went to their site; $2,000 for a TR6 system!!!

Re: TR6 Monza exhaust - all that and a bag of chip

A Monza exhaust came w/ my car. Looks like it's been there a while, but no rust anywhere I can see. Except for the nice "burble" on deacceleration, I think they're too loud, as well.

My next project is a trip to the muffler shop, to quiet the sound, and get some cuts into the exhaust system so I can pull and service the differential.....

There's your answer(s), Tom!

Re: TR6 Monza exhaust - all that and a bag of chip

Hi Kevin, yes, I guess so...

Anyone want to buy a pair (or two) from me then? LOL.

Thanks for the info guys - much better to find out now than after getting them installed!

BTW - Kevin, what is up with your differential?

I used to have these on the 250. After a weekend trip for the fall foliage in Wellsboro, PA (grand canyon of PA), I had to take them off the car. We were nearly deaf after that trip. Funny thing, back in 1966, I put a Stebro on my TR4A. I didn't seem to mind it them. Must be my age. Back in those days the two most popular "free flow" exhaust systems were Stebro and Abarth. There used to be an insert that you could put in each of the quad pipes that would tone them down. I don't know if Monza had them. Incidentally, I sold this system for what I thought was an obscene amount.

I had an american muffler on my 74 B, for 5 years. Nice and quiet-not like a sports car.
Bought a pacemaker monza system with the resonator, duel tipped muffler, for a Christmas present.
Sounds great--it's got that rumble--Not a burrito fart-- I can hear my radio just as well as before with the top up or down.
I don't think it's any louder than my tr3 with the stock, made in england resonator and muffler.
It didn't fit worth a poot-I had to pay $50 to have a muffler shop cut and fit it properly, but I'm very happy with the sound.
Don't know about a tr6-
Emmett

Sorry about the picture but it is a picture of a picture. I did not know that they made one in mild steel. That may be why one is louder than the other. Mine is stainless and much more quiet than the Monza. Not shown in the picture is the forward resonator. As for the sound it is all about what you like. Best bet is to go for a ride in a car that has the system installed and hear for yourself. Weather is great hear in AZ right now so lets go for a ride.

I can't wait to get my 250 back on the road with my almost new Ansa sytem I picked up for $125!

Had orig Ansa on my 1st 250 back in the 70's. I was in Foreign auto parts & used to buy directly from importer in College Point NY.

I think I could get a complete sytem for under $200 back then!

The Stebro sysstem is very nice, but a bit pricey.

Often, you can simply go to your friendly local muffler specialty shop and have a system fabricated for less cost than some of the fancy exhaust systems on the market.

On these small cars there's not a lot of material and a good shop with a mandrel bending machine can fab one up in no time flat.

It's certainly worth obtaining a free estimate, I think. I did this on a Spitfire once and it was a bargain.

YMMV.

I had the Monza on my 4A as well (similar set up to the TR6), I thought they were just too loud and plumbed in the intermediate muffler which probably defeats the purpose of a free flow exhaust, but brought the noise level down to "just right" or a little above just right.

I didn't have too many issues except on muffler mount separated and I had to weld it back on, other than that years of service with no rust through.

My tr250 does not currently have any exhaust system, so I will have to choose what route to go, I may have my local shop fabricate something, I have used them on a couple other cars with good luck and a decent price.

I got my Monza from JC Whitney's. Remember them?

I got it cheap because as I found out later, it was missing the center resonator that was supposed to go in front of the y pipe.

When I put mine back together, there is going to be a muffler in the middle. There is a local fab shop that can sell me a aluminized one for about 30 bucks that should last longer than a cherry bomb from the flap.

Hey Frank,

That is a SPECTACULAR trip to take in the fall. The train trip out of Mauc Chunk is worth a look too. Can't wait to do it in my own (quieter) convertable.

Ahem...

What are you "aheming" about? Tr4's are considered LBC's aren't they?

<oh, quietly and meekly> sorry about the threadjack.

PS "Jehu" might be on the road by then, so a fall foilage tour might work.

Any other Eastern PA guys here?

NEPA, Wilkes-Barre here. I seem to be the only one from my area on the forum.

My ahem has nothing to do with a thread jack. I live about a mile away from Frank and I want in on the LBC trip! Frank and I are still trying to match our calenders to do a local covered bridge tour in the cars.

and now, back to exhausts and bags of chips...

My car came with them and they lasted for 2 months. Besides setting off car alarms, especially in parking garages, they droned on and on at highway cruising speed. I could deal with them around town but after 10 minutes at highway speed I was looking for earplugs. I went with a stock steel exhaust system that is still sounding great after almost 12 years.
